Vicky Kaushal’s latest period drama ‘Chhaava’, continues its triumphant run at the box office, with a new benchmark in Bollywood’s first Tuesday collections. The film, directed by Laxman Utekar, is nearing Rs 25 crore mark on its fifth day alone. With the total collection nearing Rs 200 crore across India within just five days, ‘Chhaava‘ stands as one of the most successful films of the year so far.
Depicting the life and valor of the legendary Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, ‘Chhaava’ has resonated deeply with the audience. There are multiple videos doing the rounds of social media that show people breaking down in cinema halls and paying tribute to the Maratha king. The film showcases the rich history and sacrifices of the warrior king, played by Vicky Kaushal, in a performance that has been widely applauded by critics and viewers alike.
Will ‘Chhava’ become tax-free?
Recognising the cultural and historical significance of the film, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has formally requested the Maharashtra government to grant Chhaava a tax exemption. In a letter submitted on Tuesday, FWICE urged the government to make the film tax-free so that a larger audience, including students and history enthusiasts, could access the inspiring story of Sambhaji Maharaj.
The letter emphasised the importance of educating future generations about the Maratha ruler’s legacy. It stated, “We appeal that the movie reaches a wider audience as the legacy and courage of this great Maratha king should be known to the generations to come. Our government strongly believes in ‘Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah,’ and this movie portrays exactly the same sentiments through the life story of the great Maratha king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.”
